Job Description

At CoLab, we help engineering teams bring life-changing products to the world years sooner. Our product, CoLab, is the world’s first Design Engagement System (DES) - a category defining product that Engineering teams use to engage in meaningful, productive design conversations, catch preventable mistakes, and get to market faster. Our customers include the largest engineering organizations in the world such as Ford, Johnson Controls, Komatsu, and Polaris in the industrial equipment, consumer products, automotive, aerospace & defense, and shipbuilding industries.

On the heels of multiple years of aggressive revenue growth, CoLab is now entering a new phase of scaling up. As the VP People at CoLab you will be a partner to the leadership team and be responsible for building and scaling our organization and culture. You will own organizational strategy, recruiting, onboarding, performance management, employee growth, total rewards, company events, culture, and all things people related.

What you’ll do: 

  • Build, drive, and own recruitment and onboarding strategy to find high performing A players who can ramp quickly. 
  • Collaborate with the SLT to drive company effectiveness through performance management, maintaining a high performance standard. 
  • Own high priority internal people policies and procedures, including diversity, equity, and inclusion, career pathing, event management, training and development, total rewards, and retention. 
  • Lead, build, and coach a passionate and enthusiastic people team. 
  • Understand company goals and align people practices, programs, and initiatives with overall business objectives. 
  • Collaborate with SLT team members to drive corporate strategy, create OKRs, and define business priorities as we scale the business. 
  • Act as a strategic advisor to the SLT to solve difficult people problems with compassion and a people-first approach. 

What you’ll need: 

  • Experience leading and scaling a high-growth, rapid scale B2B software organization from early stages with remote and in-office employees.
  • Demonstrated experience developing people best practices and programs in a growing organization. 
  • Experience coaching SLT through complex problems and difficult decisions. 
  • Strong background and knowledge in operational best practices and recruitment initiatives. 
  • Strong culture and values-focused leader who is able to drive performance culture - you support and enable team members to thrive in their role.
  • Problem solving expert - you aren’t afraid of difficult conversations and are able to lead and coach others through them with compassion. 
  • Operational machine - you have a high level of integrity and are able to tackle and execute complex scopes of work. 
  • A well-developed equity lens: you have an eye for inclusivity and don’t just accept equitable practices, you model and advocate for them on your teams and in your work.
  • Thrives in a rapid, fast-paced environment where change is constant.

  • Compensation: This is a full-time, permanent position with an attractive compensation package that includes an executive stock options package.
  • Benefits: 
    • Canada: This role offers an extended health and benefits package that includes unlimited paid vacation and RRSP matching.
    • USA: This role offers health and dental insurance (covered at 100% for the employee) and unlimited PTO.
  • Remote/Hybrid Work: Our main office location is in St. John’s, NL where we offer hybrid and remote opportunities. This role has the flexibility to work from anywhere within Canada or the USA, with preference given to those located within Toronto and St. John’s. If you’re not located in NL, you’ll be required to visit us in the office once per quarter.
